I definitely know of one case where it did Back about fifteen
years ago, I was called out on a potential design job, for an
addition to a small lake home. It was a couple, who both had
good credit, and good incomes. They had no unusual out-
-standing debt, and were really just about ideal for the house
being financed. However, they were not married, so the bank
wouldn't let them buy the one bedroom house together. They
had called me to see if we might put together a presentation,
to the bank, where the loan would also cover an addition,
which would contain a second bedroom. This was fine with
them, because they had plans to have at least one child,
anyway, and would need the extra space. But, the bank
was totally uncooperative, and every proposal they made,
the bank immediately shot down. Finally they gave up
their dream, of owning a nice LittleHouse, on the lake,
until they could save enough money, for a big enough
down payment, that the bank would approve the loan
for only one of them. Oh! Did I forget to say that
they were a lesbian couple?
